On Saturday, February 25th, Rogers Park residents gathered to hear energy advocates and efficiency experts, from Citizens Utility Board and Elevate Energy, offer great advice on how to monitor energy usage and make helpful changes to save money while keeping homes comfortable. Presentations included, information on smart grid/ smart meter options; when ComEd’s Hourly Pricing Program is beneficial; how to avoid utility scams and slay energy vampires; how to use the power of technology to control energy usage; how to arrange home energy audits and the benefits of rebates and free products available to increase both the efficiency and value of homes. After examining items available in the C3 starter weatherization kits, it was time for some hands-on practice in identifying key problem areas for air leaks (like walls, doors and electrical sockets.) With simple , free and low cost items, some might reduce costs on average by as much as 25%. As an additional bonus, participants received coupons from Clark/Devon Hardware for 20% off in-store purchases of weatherization items to jump-start their energy saving efforts! Remember, a sustainable environment and economy involves shopping local! [Please visit the Resource Table and explore topics in more detail.]
